Facts from the official page

Operator
The West Virginia National Guard's official page lists the Camp Dawson Event Center as a tenant organization that runs housing on post. The RV details below come from the Event Center's own site, which is not a .mil site. source
Sites
Lakeside RV sites near a pavilion and fire pit. Electric only. source
Rates
Published as $18 (official), $23 (non-official) and $28 (non-military), but labeled "per bedroom", which does not fit an RV site. source
Reservations
Request form on the site, or call 304-791-7001. 1001 Army Road, Kingwood. source
Base access
Veterans enter with a VA ID card showing "Service Connected", a Veteran ID Card, or a driver's license with a veteran designation, plus vetting and a REAL ID or alternative. Retirees and dependents enter with their DoD ID. Vetting runs Mon–Fri 7am–2pm and must be done before arrival. source

Unverified, call ahead

  • Rates (the "per bedroom" wording looks like a template error).
  • Number of RV sites is not published.
  • This is a National Guard training site lodging operator, not an MWR FamCamp; call ahead.

We could not confirm these on an official page, so we leave them blank rather than guess. Call 304-791-7001.

If you don't have a DoD ID card

Under the 2020 expanded-access rule (32 CFR 225.4), veterans with a VA service-connected disability rating, Purple Heart recipients, former POWs and VA-designated primary family caregivers may use MWR recreational lodging and RV campgrounds. To get on a base, enroll at the installation's visitor center on your first visit, using a VHIC or REAL ID and passing an on-the-spot background check. At check-in, show a VHIC that lists your eligibility status, or a VA letter plus REAL ID. Guests can travel with you but must clear the visitor center themselves (DoD transition plan, Feb 2026).
