Privacy policy
Effective date: October 21, 2026. This page describes what Compare Campgrounds (comparecampgrounds.com) actually does. It is not a statement of compliance with any particular law.
The short version
- There are no accounts, no sign-ups and no email lists. We do not ask for your name, email address or any other contact details.
- Ads on this site are served by Google AdSense, which uses cookies (details below).
- The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which also measures traffic and page speed for us with Cloudflare Web Analytics.
- Saved campgrounds and your compare list are kept only in your own browser.
Advertising: Google AdSense
We show ads through Google AdSense (publisher ID ca-pub-9316151530956171). When a page with ads loads, your browser contacts Google's ad servers directly.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Unless that option is turned off in our AdSense account, other ad vendors and ad networks certified by Google may also serve ads here and use their own cookies.
You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google in Google's Ads Settings. You can opt out of some other vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info. To learn how Google uses this information, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
We do not receive your identity from Google. We see only aggregate reports such as ad impressions and earnings.
Hosting and analytics: Cloudflare
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. As with any web host, Cloudflare processes the technical details of each request, such as your IP address and browser type, in order to deliver the page.
Cloudflare Web Analytics is turned on for this site. Cloudflare adds a small script (static.cloudflareinsights.com/beacon.min.js) to each page. The script reports page views and page-load timing to Cloudflare, and we see aggregate figures such as visits, pages viewed, referring sites, countries and load speed.
Cloudflare states that Web Analytics "collects the minimum amount of information" and that it "does not track individual end users across our customers' Internet properties" (Cloudflare's documentation). See also Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Saved campgrounds and the compare list
When you save a campground or add one to the compare list, the list is stored only in your browser's local storage, under the keys cc_saved_v1 (saved campgrounds) and cc_cmp (compare list). These lists are never sent to us or anyone else. You can delete them by removing the campgrounds on the Saved page or by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Maps and photos
- Most maps and photos are image files stored on this site. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons and agency sources, and each one is credited on the page.
- Interactive maps load only when you press the map button. Your browser then fetches the map library from unpkg.com and map tiles from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org). Those services receive your IP address and browser details as part of the request, under their own policies.
- Links to Google Maps, OpenStreetMap, Recreation.gov, state park sites, campground websites and retailers take you to other sites with their own privacy policies.
Affiliate links
Some links may be affiliate links in the future, and retailers may then set their own cookies when you click one. See our affiliate disclosure.
Changes
If the site's ads, analytics or features change, we will update this page and its effective date.
