Winter cabin rules in Virginia

Virginia State Parks cabin pages share one set of booking rules. At Pocahontas and Bear Creek Lake, cabins are open year-round and may be reserved up to 11 months in advance. Between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day, cabins rent for a six-night minimum (reduced to four nights three months out and two nights in the last month before arrival); the rest of the year, including winter, the minimum is two nights.

A fee is charged per pet per night for cabin stays, and pets may not be left unattended. At Bear Creek Lake, check-in is 4 p.m., no linens are provided (bring sheets, blankets and towels), and each cabin has a wood-burning fireplace with one complimentary bundle of firewood. Pocahontas's three-bedroom cabins have central heating and a gas fireplace.

How we check: a cabin is listed only if an official park source says it is heated and rented in winter. Anything the park doesn't state is shown as "Not listed". Checked October 26, 2026; confirm details when you book.

"Pets allowed" and "Bathroom" only match listings where the park states it. Parks often allow pets in only some cabins.
